CLF Research Grant Programs

Supporting liver research across Canada is a critical part of the CLF's mandate. Our research grant program helps ensure the search for treatments and cures continues by:

  • supporting the potential for major breakthroughs;
  • retaining existing talent in Canada and potentially attracting new talent from abroad;
  • raising the profile of hepatology in academic and medical circles, and;
  • helping to entice young doctors to enter the field of liver research.

The CLF research review process ensures that all grant submissions undergo rigorous and objective peer review which is conducted in partnership with the Canadian Association for the Study of the Liver (CASL) and involves evaluation by liver experts from within Canada and around the world.

In 2016, we awarded 14 research grants including 1 team grant, 1 operating grant, 3 graduate studentships and 9 summer studentships. This represents a positive increase from 2015 with 8 grants awarded (5 operating grants, 3 summer studentships) and 2014 (2 operating grants, 1 graduate studentship and 4 summer studentships).
